Well I have known that this may happen for a while but it is official now so I guess I can write about it. The Superintendent our hotshot crew has taken a new position. It is a good move for him but it means that things with work are going to change. and I am not sure how I feel about it. I know that change can be good but it is gonna be hard. our Supt has been in charge of the crew for 10yrs and has also been on the crew since 1986 I think....so know all the leadership positions are going to change
Basically for those who do not know the way the crew is set up is like this Superintendent........operations foreman (captain)......logistics foreman (captain which currently is vacant) then 2 squad bosses who work for the operations foreman, senior firefighters (me) and seasonal crew members...
As of know I think that the operations captain is gonna move into the supt role and then the squad bosses will most likely move up to captains positions so then that leaves the squad boss positions to be filled...... that is where it gets kind of screwy. from what I heard they are gonna fill them from within the crew.....which means us senior firefighters.....but there are 3 that this will be our 2nd year as seniors and 2 whose first year is this season. and the problem is I dont know who they will pick. it will be frustrating for me if the guys who this is there first season as seniors get moved up ahead of me..... I hope to move into a squad boss role but if I am not chosen I can deal with it.
I have looked at a couple of different jobs but dont know if I want to apply to them until I find out who is going to fill the squad boss jobs, because if I get one of them I will stay with the crew.
Hopefully they figure out what is going to happen next week cuz I hate not knowing. I could babble on forever about this cuz there are alot more of what ifs but I am going to stop myself now
Who knows what is in store for this season...I guess I will have to wait and see.

Back to the car
Well I am back at work...things have been pretty mellow. We got a little bit of snow on Sunday but it is all mellted now....which is mind boggling cuz last year when I got here there was like 3 feet of snow at least on the the ground. The weather has been nice that we are getting things done way to fast at work....I wonder what else we will do before the rest of the crew starts in 2 weeks.
So being back at work means checking my email and blogging from my car. This used to be no big deal but now my laptops battery doesn't want to last more than 30 minutes so that kind of sucks. but I have a plan to make it so I can plug it into my cars power jack... I just got to get to town to do that
The best news of all is that Stephie came to visit me!!!! She was the first no family member to come visit me out here in CA. It was a short visit but it still was fun.
Well thats all for now

The quick and dirty
Q & A TimeQ. So how was the rest of your drive out west?
A. my drive went well. I had good weather and drove a super long day but made it to Laura's house. After visiting WA I headed down to CA which is where I am now
Q. How was Laura's?
A. It was a good time. We were really busy the whole time. Dana came over and hung out a bunch. Lets see what did we do. well we went to the piano bar that laura went to for her B-day. That was fun since it was ladies night. Then on Friday Laura, Dana and I went to Seattle and were tourist for the day. We went to pikes market. where they throw fish, there are tons of flowers and fresh produce for sale. We also ate at a restaurant there that was in the film Sleepless in Seattle it even had the seat marked where Tom Hanks sat. After that we wandered around down town and then went on a Tour of Seattle's underground. It was a cool tour and I think we all learned alot about Seamstresses. Then Saturday my friend Rob came to visit us and we went to Point Defiance park where there was a zoo and way to many children. After that we went and found dana. We mixed up some margarita's and then headed out for some yummy thai food followed by a couple of drinks at a pretty cool bar. Sun morning I left and headed down to my aunt and uncles in OR.
Q. Where are you now?
A. well I am currently in Sacremento taking a training. It has been super busy this week. I have learned a couple of things so that is good. We had class til 11:00 last night so I feel like I have been going constantly since I got here. I will be in class until Friday at least this time I have a microwave and fridge in my room so I can buy some food from the store and cook it in my microwave.Q. So what is up next?
A. Well that is a good question. I have to be at work on Monday so I have the weekend to kill. I i can't really move into my cabin til sunday because I dont have any of my keys to get into the kitchen or bathroom so I have yet to decide what I am going to do with my weekend. I was thinking of going up to Yosemite since I have only been there for work and not on my own. I am not yet decided but I know that I will come up with something.
Q. So my last question for you is why are you guys all on that pig?
A. Well that pig was at the entrance to pikes market in Seattle. When we got there, there were lots of people all around it so we didn't take any pictures. But on our way back to the car it started raining and we got soaked walking so we decided to stop at this brewery and have a beer. Much to dana's excitement we also got some yummy nacho's and when the bill came we discovered that it was happy hour and everything was cheap.
So after we left we walked into the market again and it was closed so we decided to take a few pig pictures. I wish they came out better but oh well. We were all water logged but they still look fun

On the road again
well I am on the road once again. Today I covered the states of Minnesota, North Dakota and part of Montana. I am in the lovely city of Miles City.
Pretty boring drive today. Although I did see a buffalo and I think it was a wild one since I was in the middle of nowhere and it was the only one around. I also discovered that there is an Enchanted highway in ND well I knew it was there but today i thought that it may a fun road to take sometime. Form I-94 you can see the Geese in Flight
I dont know how far I will make it tommorow we will have to see. Hopefully it doesn't snow.

Avoiding
I am avoiding packing so instead I came to Caribou to use their free internet and to get a free drink that I won. I figure I am leaving soon gotta get free stuff.
So my plan is to leave early monday morning so I need to get packed. I know that I will probably be busy this weekend, spending time with people before I go. But I just can't get myself to pack anything up. I just got it all unpacked in my new house and dont want to pack again. I think I may end up taking quite a bit less stuff with me just because I dont want to pack things up. that not a bad thing since normally I end up hauling all sorts of stuff across the country and not even touching it.
Lets see not much else is new. It does not look or feel like spring here. we more snow in one day than there has ever been (or at least ever recorded) on Tuesday. So that was fun.
Well thats all for now

Questions and Answers
Recently people have posted some comments asking me questions and I have not answered them so I am going to attempt to do so.
Yes I cooked the fish from the camping trip last friday. I had my mom and dad over for dinner and we had the yummy yummy fish
Yes it is almost time for me to head out west again. Yes I know I have barely moved into my house and I am leaving again. I leave on April 9th to go back to the west coast. I am taking a different route than normal because my sister now lives in seattle so I am going to go visit her and hopefully see dana also. Then I have a training for a week starting the 16th and then I start work on the 23rd. The rest of the crew doesn't start til the 13th I do believe so we will see what kind of fun stuff I will be doing until then.
It is suppposed to snow here and I am not so happy about that. I thought that we hit the 70degree mark and we wouldn't be going back to the snow but I was wrong.
I got my haircut last week. It is quite a bitter shorter than it was. It may be the shortest that is has ever been. I decided that it was time for a change so I went for it. maybe if I have time I will post a photo. But dont worry it isnt that short I can still put it into a pontytail....that was a requirement.
Other than that I dont have much.
