Napali Coast

here are some pictures from a 13 mile hike that we did that gave us some awesome views of the Na'pali Coast. The first part of the hike was a steep downhill which was very slippery and we both fell numerous times, the middle part of the hike was along a cliff edge that stated "dangerous drop off proceed at your own risk" and then the third part was a gradual up hill where most of the others were coming down and not doing all of the loop just a small part. they all looked at laura and I like we were crazy and that something was wrong with us because we were covered in mud, we even saw one lady wiping her ankles off with a baby wipe and i thought oh boy lady you are in trouble the mud hasn't even started yet.

anyway there were awesome views and beautiful double rainbows and amazing cliffs. think Ill let the photos do the talking for me

Part two

Did the rain end??? Yes eventually it did end. but even when it was raining we were out having fun and enjoying our time there. we tried going over to the side of the island where it never rains, but oh wait it down-poured....but then the days slowly got nicer.

I have a tone of pictures from this part of the trip...we went up Waiema canyon, it is sometimes refered to as the Grand Canyon of Hawaii, we did a hike down into the canyon....we ended up at a water fall, that looked impressive from far away at least I think I saw it from far away, but up close it didn't really look like anything.

After a day up in the canyon hiking around and hanging out we drove back down to the coast to camp for the night. we were hoping to camp with out getting rained on to much. The lady who owned the B&B where we stayed the night before told us to go out to this state park that is a huge beach. Well we headed out there thinking it wouldn't be to much of a drive...boy where we wrong, we took our little rental impala off roading...we bottomed out a few time and thought we were going ot get stuck. We wondered many times if we should keep going, we kept going since we saw people coming out and because we had a couple of cars right on our ass so we couldn't turn around.
We got out there and yes it was a cool beach, but we decided not to camp their since we didn't see any other tents and also because a sign right off the main rd said that the park was closed and we just weren't sure.
The photo above is from the beach we went off roading to. it is like a 10 mile chunk of just beach, and then it turns into the Napali coast. The napali coast is beautiful and Ill post more about our hike there later

Kauai part 1

Well I would love to use the words, hot, sunny, and all those summer words to describe the first part of my trip but that was not the case. It was warm, but it was also rainy....very rainy, some locals said it only rained as much as it did during huricanes.

Our trip started out as an adventure, with planes not being on time and missing flights and getting put on different flights and all sorts of stuff, to top it all off, both laura and I were missing our luggage....what fun. (see her blog to learn more about the luggage fun).

Anyway we made out ok with out all of our luggage for the first two days. We camped went on hikes and hoped the rain would stop. it was hard to go see what we wanted to see, because the water in the streams was so high and dirty that the waterfalls weren't the best for viewing, and all the hikes were supposed to have awesome views. but you can't get many views when it is cloudy and foggy, don't get me wrong, it was beautiful and we had a great time, but we were just waiting for the rain to stop.

so did it stop stay tuned for the next post.

here are some pictures from the start of our trip

Kipu Falls: there were people here jumping off the top of these falls, and then they would use the ladder to climb up....laura and I thought about it, but it started raining and the water felt pretty chilly.

View of Ninini Point from running waters beach...we were the only ones on this beach because it is kind of hidden...notice the dark clouds coming in....we left when the downpour came.

Laura looking at Ho'op'i falls. We were going to go on a longer hike that day but decided it might be hard to cross some of the streams that we on the hike since the water seemed high. We learned that that the dirt there gets really slippery when wet..... i had an adventure getting down a hill to these falls...but I didn't fall just had to run.

Our campsite at Anni beach...it was a pretty cool beach. we stayed here quite a few nights. The campground isn't like campgrounds here, you just go to certian beaches and just put your tent up wherever you want. There are many beach folk that try to live at these campgrounds, but we learned that they get kicked out quite often.
