Good news, we are now available for fire nationally!!!!!!!



That means we now just have to wait til we get a fire call. So if I disappear and you don't hear from me for awhile that means we have been dispatched to a fire. But if you want to check up on me to see where I am go to the arrowhead website

I have had enough time at station so I am hopping that we get our first call soon.

My roommate

So most of you who read this know that I was the only girl on the crew last year so that meant that I had a cabin to myself. Well not this year....they hired another girl. I am pretty excited because it is nice to have another girl around. She is younger 22 I believe but the funny thing is that she just got done going to school at Calvin College in Grand Rapids...

I am not sure what I think of her yet but she seems pretty cool. The only bad thing is that she snores sometimes...but as long as she doesn't go crazy or get super annoying like my last roommate I think that I can handle that.

For those of you who wanted to know what posion oak looks like here ya go. It looks different everytime I get it but here is what the spot on my leg currently looks like.







Last week on of the guys decided that he needed a new hairstyle so we gave him a mullet......yep a mullet and he still has it.

Things just haven't been going my way.

I was all excited about today. First of all Thursday is my friday so that was the first good thing. Today was the the last day of training and we were going to be available for fires starting tommorow. We were doing a training yesterday and today and since I had already taken the class I was a group leader for a field exercise today and I was excited because i got to watch people be blindfolded and guided thru an obstacle course....well all that was good and fun and then I get back to the station and find out that we aren't available for fires. What the F$%$!!!1 Why not. Well it turns out the my 2 of my bosses have to go to meeting next tuesday and there is no way that they can get out of it. So that means we can't go to a fire before then. So I was thinking well at least we are working monday and will et paid holiday pay all day. Well I find out we are not working monday but have to work sunday.

So basically I could have gone and done something fun this weekend but I didnt make any plans because I assumed that we would be available for fires and couldn't go very far away. I hope this bad luck changes soon

For those of you who are wondering what poison oak looks like I will try to take a picture of it and post it. My oak has gotten better but there is still some.

Well I think since it is my friday it is time to go and have a beer or two

Poison Oak

Yep we haven't even been on a fire and I have poison oak. We did some field drills on thursday and I thought that I stayed out of the oak but nope no such luck. Dont worry mom and dad its not as bad as it was last year at this time. well at least not yet. I never used to get oak but it seems like that more that I am exposed to it the worse it gets. Oh well what can you do.

In other news we have finished out first week of training. only one more to go and then we will be available for fires. I am ready to get out and on fires. the busier we are the better. Or at least that is what I say. Most if the new people on the crew seem pretty good. Although I am definitly not used to having a roommate it has been a while. she gets up early and is always waking me up. But hopefully I get used to it.

It was super nice here this weekend. My friend nick and I went and hung out at the lake nearby. I have known nick since my first summer in CA. He wasn't on the crew last year but I am glad that he is back. He is a really good friend and it is nice to have someone to hang out with and talk to.

Well it is dark now so I better get going

Something New

I needed something new on the top of my blog so I thought I would put one of my favorite pictures up. I took this picture on I fire In WA. we did a trails sweep to make sure no one was on them before we closed them and well this is where my trail took me to. Let me tell you it was a bitch to get there but the view was well worth it. If you can't tell the top of the mountian is a glacier.... and there were like 10 waterfalls coming down into this lake

In other news the rest of the crew comes on Sunday so we will soon be closer to being ready to go on fires...

Also today I found out why I wasn't chosen for the squad boss job and it really pissed me off. Especially after I was told that I interviewed really well better than the others. He gave me some excuse about why they chose the others and after you hear them you know that it pretty much comes down to the fact that I am a girl. Of course they would never say that but there has never been a girl in that position and I think they are afraid to put one there.

Not so good

well things didn't go the way I wanted them to. I wasn't chosen to detail into the squad boss position. I am disappointed but what ya gonna do.

I could write about how i feel about the decision my bosses made but I am not going to post it on here. It is all just really frustrating and makes it hard for me to be positive about all the things that are going on.

Who knows what the season will bring. I guess I will have to wait in see. But I am most definiatly uping my job search into high gear. I can't put up with crap forever!!

One of these days I will have to take some pictures and put them up on my blog to make less negative

Frustrated

So it is always kind of frustrating when I go back to work.....but right now it is even more so than normal. It is so hard to not be able to check my email when I want to or to pick up my phone and check my messages or call someone.....I know I will get used to it but right now it is adding to my frustration about everything else that is going on.

Last week was a good week.....it made me think that everything was going to be good this summer.....but now this week things are completely different and I feel like I am being treated like a 2 year old. I hate being out of the loop and people always whispering....we are people you hired as permanent employees for goodness sake give us a little respect.

So we still dont know who the squad bosses are going to be hopefully they decide by tomorrow. So they decided that they wanted to talk to each one of us seniors about being squad boss and they told us this about 20 minutes before they wanted to do it. let me tell you it was more like an interview...with typical questions like what will you bring to the position, what are you strengths & weaknesses and stuff like that. Normally I like to have more that 20 minutes to prepare for an interview....even though they said it was informal I am sure they will base part of their decisions on it.

Ok I am dont babbling I am just having a frustrating day
